The Magic Line: Where Depth, Sky, and Imagination Meet
10 - 13 yrs 1 Session 1 Hour $25 per participant
For young artists ready to expand their skills and explore new techniques, we will dive into the magic of depth and perception in art. We'll explore how simple lines can turn into powerful illusions, and how tools like the horizon line, along with the use of big, medium, and small elements, help us build believable, 3D landscapes.
In this session, we’ll unlock the secret to making drawings look like they have depth and perspective. Students will learn how simple lines can transform into believable, 3D scenes by using the power of the horizon line, the illusion of big, medium, and small, and their own imagination. By the end of class, each student will create an original landscape artwork using watercolors, and colored pencils—blending structure and creativity in a unique scene of their choosing.
This is a fun and imaginative art lesson, students will explore how to make their landscape drawings look like they go on forever! We’ll learn the magic of the horizon line—a powerful tool that shows us where the sky meets the ground—and how artists use it to create depth. We'll also unlock the secret to drawing things in the foreground, middle ground, and background. These tricks will help students draw realistic landscapes that look 3D—even though they're on flat paper! Perfect for young artists who love drawing, and learning about the connection it has with optical illusions.
All Materials will be supplied.
We’ll be working with some messy (and fun!) materials, so we recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting a little creative with. Smocks or aprons are totally optional—but they can be a great extra layer if you’d like!
