Playful Abstractions: Making Art That’s Alive 5-12 yrs
1 - 1.5 hrs 1 Session $25 per Participant
Bold shapes and glowing colors meet in a gentle push and pull, a playful conversation that sets the art in motion. Every curve, line, and hue hums with quiet energy, transforming the artwork into a living, breathing story and your imagination leads the way! In this joyful, hands-on art class inspired by Elizabeth Murray and contemporary abstract artists, young artists will explore how colors and organic shapes can tell stories without using words.
Whole Body Focus:
This lesson invites children to explore the energy and emotions within shapes and colors, encouraging them to trust their intuition, embrace playful imperfection, and experience how abstract forms can tell stories without words. It supports fine motor development, spatial awareness, emotional expression, and creative confidence.
Poetic Objective:
Students will create a composition of dancing, layered shapes that reflect the invisible stories of color, movement, and personal feeling. Inspired by the organic forms of nature and the bold joy of abstraction, each artwork becomes a mirror of the child’s inner world.
All Materials will be supplied.
We’ll be working with some messy (and fun!) materials, so we recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting a little creative with. Smocks or aprons are totally optional—but they can be a great extra layer if you’d like!
