Wools of Intention: A Purse for Your Story 13 to 18 yrs
2- 2.5 hrs 1 Session $65. per Participant
In this workshop, teens will learn the traditional craft of wet felting — one of the oldest textile-making techniques in the world. Be ready to get your hands a little soapy and make something totally unique? In this class, you’ll learn how to turn soft, colorful wool into a felted purse you can actually use.Using warm, soapy water and soft wool, students will build layers of color and texture to create a sturdy, functional wool purse.
We’ll show you how to layer wool, build up colors, and shape your design. Then comes the fun part: adding water, soap, and plenty of squishing and rolling to magically bond the fibers together into strong, sturdy felt. You’ll finish your purse with a braided strap and any extra details you want to add. Students will have the chance to choose their own color combinations and add personal designs or symbols using dyed wool and yarn.
This is a relaxed, hands-on class designed for both beginners and those with some experience working with fibers. Along the way, we can talk about the history of felting, the properties of wool, and how simple, repetitive handwork can help us slow down and focus.
All materials are provided, and no prior experience is needed. Students will leave with a finished wool purse and an understanding of the wet felting process from start to finish.
We’ll be working with some messy (and fun!) materials, so we recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting a little creative with. Smocks or aprons are totally optional—but they can be a great extra layer if you’d like!
