Discover Yourself Through Art: Inside Out – A Mixed Media Self-Portrait Journey

Ages 13–18 1hr 2 Sessions $60 per Participant

Unleash your creativity and explore who you are in this inspiring two-part workshop for high school students (ages 13–18)! In "Inside Out: A Mixed Media Self-Portrait Journey," you’ll create a unique self-portraits that reveal the many layers of your identity—from the face you show the world to the dreams, emotions, and memories you hold inside.

Inspired by the surreal, symbolic works of Amy Cutler and the bold, fragmented style of Matt Cunningham (Moon Patrol), you’ll tear, collage, paint, and draw your way to a masterpiece. Using watercolor, colored pencils, gel pens, and magazine clippings, you’ll break apart and rebuild your portrait with symbols, textures, and colors that tell your story. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, this class offers a safe space to experiment, reflect, and connect with your inner self.

What You’ll Gain:

  • Learn mixed media techniques like collage, watercolor, and drawing.

  • Explore your identity through self-portrait, inspired by contemporary artists.

  • Build confidence in expressing yourself visually and verbally through reflections and artist statements.

  • Create artwork that’s deeply personal and uniquely yours.

All Materials will be supplied.

We’ll be working with some messy (and fun!) materials, so we recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting a little creative with. Smocks or aprons are totally optional—but they can be a great extra layer if you’d like!
