Hands, Heart & Motion: A Kinetic Creative Workshop 9-14 yrs
1.5 to 2 hrs 1 Session $40.
Create mechanical toys that move with meaning, reflect your story, and inspire curiosity.
Discover the beauty of motion, creativity, and reflection in this hands-on art and engineering workshop. In this class, students will design and build their own automata—hand-cranked mechanical toys brought to life through simple machines and imaginative storytelling.
Rooted in a mindful, holistic approach, this workshop invites young makers to slow down, observe how things move, and consider how their creations might reflect their emotions, ideas, and personal stories. Along the way, we'll explore how ancient toymakers and contemporary artists use mechanics, art, and intention to craft objects that move and inspire.
This experience encourages:
Curiosity about how things work through cams, cranks, and levers.
Creative storytelling by designing creatures, characters, or abstract forms that move.
Mindful awareness by noticing patterns, rhythms, and the calming focus of hands-on creation.
Connection to modern makers and kinetic artists who blend technology and art in meaningful ways.
Students will leave with a one-of-a-kind moving sculpture and a deeper appreciation for the art of thoughtful, intentional making.
No experience necessary—just a curious mind and a willingness to play.
We’ll be working with some messy (and fun!) materials, so we recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting a little creative with. Smocks or aprons are totally optional—but they can be a great extra layer if you’d like!
