Paint Texture Exploration: Inspired by Eric Carle's Mixed-Up Chameleon 5yrs - 8yrs
2 Sessions 1 hr each $50.00 per participant
In this engaging class, young artists will embark on a hands-on exploration of texture, color mixing, and mark-making, inspired by the whimsical and vibrant world of Eric Carle’s Mixed-Up Chameleon. Through a series of guided activities, they will experiment with unconventional materials and tools to create unique textures, while developing essential artistic skills such as organization, composition, and creative expression.
Intentions:
Color Mixing & Mark Making: Artists will explore how to mix colors to create vibrant, dynamic palettes. They'll experiment with various mark-making techniques, such as dabbing, brushing, and using unconventional materials (e.g., sponges, fabric, and cardboard) to add texture to their work.
Texture Creation: Using everyday objects and tools, participants will create rich, layered textures that reflect the bold and playful qualities of Eric Carle’s illustrations. They will learn how to manipulate these textures to bring their artworks to life, combining both tactile and visual elements.
Sketching & Composition: To prepare for their final piece, young artists will start by drawing a quick sketch to help them organize and compose their collages. This sketch will serve as a blueprint for arranging the textures and colors they’ve created, helping them make thoughtful decisions about how to combine elements in their artwork.
Organizational Skills: Throughout the process, young artists will develop important organizational skills, learning how to plan and structure their artwork. They'll be encouraged to experiment with the placement of their textures and colors in a way that brings harmony and balance to their final collage.
By the end of the classes, each young artist will have gained the confidence and skills to use unexpected materials in their artwork, creating textured, imaginative pieces that reflect their individual style and creativity.
All Materials will be supplied.
We’ll be working with some messy (and fun!) materials, so we recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting a little creative with. Smocks or aprons are totally optional—but they can be a great extra layer if you’d like!
